Job Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the Shropshire Mental Health Rotation, starting in Children and Young People Mental Health Services (CAMHS) community team.
The Shropshire mental health rotation currently includes 5 clinical areas including both in-patient and community settings:

  • Children and Young People (Core CAMHS team) – Shrewsbury & Telford bases
  • Inpatient complex care (older adult) - Redwoods Centre
  • Forensic In-patient - Redwoods Centre
  • Crisis and Home treatment - Shrewsbury
  • Community Mental Health Team - Shrewsbury base
    Each rotation is for a 12-month period, changing in November each year. You will be expected to have had experience of working within a multidisciplinary team pre-registration, possess excellent communication skills, and be able to operate on your own initiative while participating in supervision from a senior practitioner. You will provide a range of standardized Occupational Therapy assessments, demonstrate effective clinical reasoning, and show a passion for working with individuals experiencing various mental health difficulties.
    Where required, an OT mentor will be allocated to support you through the AHP preceptorship process.
    Main duties of the job
  • Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, which includes specialist assessment (within service specification), care planning in conjunction with service users and carers, and evaluation of individual treatment plans (Care Programme Approach and Single Assessment Process).
  • Participate in setting quality standards, including the auditing, monitoring, and reviewing of practice in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
  • Assess patients' individual care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Deliver a range of non-pharmacological interventions following specific occupational therapy assessments to enable understanding of any expression of an unmet need and to maximize an individual’s abilities.
  • Complete and contribute, where appropriate, to robust risk assessments and risk management plans. Deliver and promote positive risk-taking, where appropriate, to improve quality of life and maximize occupational performance/independence.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system by observing and reporting verbally and in writing on patient conditions.

    Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
    You will be responsible for the occupational therapy assessment of care needs and contributing to the formulation of the person’s needs and the development of a relevant plan based upon the person’s negotiated goals and relevant evidence-based interventions.
    In conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, you will provide occupational therapy interventions to support the person in meeting their agreed goals and coordinate and/or participate in the review of progress towards those goals, utilizing recommended outcome measures, involving the service user and any identified carer throughout the clinical pathway.

    Essential criteria
  • Dip COT or degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registered Occupational Therapist
    Desirable criteria
  • CPD Folder evidence of ongoing learning/development
    Experience
    Essential criteria
  • Experience of formulating assessments, planning, coordinating, and supporting individuals experiencing mental health-related difficulties
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health NICE Guidelines
  • Knowledge and experience of occupational therapy models, interventions, specialist assessments, and outcome measures
  • Experience of multiagency and multidisciplinary working
    Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within a community mental health setting
  • Experience of working with children, young people, and families
  • Experience of managing a caseload
  • Experience in developing and facilitating group programmes.
