Key Night Care Assistant Responsibilities
Responsibilities As a Night Care Assistant, your role will include a wide range of responsibilities to ensure our residents’ comfort and safety through the night, including (but not limited to):

  • Assisting residents with getting ready for bed, ensuring they are comfortable and safe. This might involve getting changed into sleepwear, pre-sleep grooming, and bathroom trips.
  • Delivering personal care according to each resident’s tailored care plan, including support with continence care.
  • Providing mobility support throughout the night and assisting residents with moving and handling, which is essential when lighting is lower and residents might be more likely to fall.
  • Administering medications throughout the evening and recording accurate medication logs.
  • Emotionally supporting residents, offering friendly chats, companionship, and reassurance throughout the night.
  • Monitoring residents’ well-being and proactively reporting any concerns or changes in condition to tackle issues before they escalate.
  • Being on-call for any late-night emergencies or special requests from residents.
  • Ensuring the home is safe and secure overnight, ensuring a calm and peaceful environment. This will include monitoring residents who might wander or experience sundowning.

Essential Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Previous experience in a care environment, preferably with knowledge of night-time care needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care or equivalent (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to emergencies effectively.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping and documentation.

Ideal

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of infection control and safeguarding procedures.
  • A valid driver’s license (for community-based roles).
