Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Children's Speech and Language Therapist for a 1 year, 3 days/week fixed term post (maternity leave cover) to work within our Complex needs team. The role will involve the delivery of assessments and interventions within specialist settings, clinic and homes and the delivery of training to parents/carers and colleagues. You will be part of a well-established and experienced group of SLTs. Salford Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service provide CPD, supervision, support and mentoring from a range of experienced SLTs across the service. You will be part of a large, friendly, supportive team who are passionate about ensuring that all children and families receive appropriate and timely therapeutic and preventative interventions that aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Due to the nature of the post, you may be required to travel to different sites as required by the service.

Main duties of the job

  • To deliver universal, targeted and specialist clinical work as part of a multidisciplinary team in line with Balanced System principles.
  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers and setting staff to support children with speech, language and communication needs, including eating, drinking and swallowing needs.
  • To assess and diagnose speech, language and communication need and to plan and implement Specialist Speech and Language Therapy interventions and programmes of care and discharge appropriately, using evidence-based practice.
  • To produce reports outlining the findings of the assessments and child/young person's needs and next steps (including for statutory purposes, e.g., EHCP assessments).
  • Demonstrate clinical effectiveness through the use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
  • Support the development and delivery of training packages to parents/carers and setting staff.
  • To provide peer support to and receive peer support from other Speech and Language colleagues.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Demonstrate excellent specialist knowledge in a wide range of paediatric communication disorders which is underpinned by current evidence-based practice.
  • Relevant post-graduate experience working in Complex Needs.
  • Good planning, organisational, caseload management and prioritisation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of up to date assessment tools relevant to client group.
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Experience of delivering training packages.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Good written presentation skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with children/young people with eating, drinking and swallowing needs.
  • Have attended Talking Mats Training (Foundation Stage).
  • Experience of working with AAC.
