Job Overview
To play a senior role in our Wave 13, Wave 11, Wave 5 and Wave 7 MHST teams, providing clinical leadership to the MHST team, and supporting the development of the MHST alongside senior colleagues within the service.
The role will support the delivery of all interventions within the MHST teams, ensuring that a wide range of evidence-based interventions, using CBT based principles and a CBT informed framework, are used to support young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, and to ensure early help and access to specialist services is seamless and transparent. The post holder will need to be flexible with a clear understanding of THRIVE and how all providers and organizations build on collaborative working with children, young people and families at the heart of all we do.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be working across schools supporting trainee EMHPs in the borough of Hillingdon by providing supervision, consultation, mental health assessments and evidenced based mental health treatments to children, young people and their families. They will provide support to frontline children's services in developing their capacity in early identification and intervention with children's mental health needs. Promoting the emotional and mental health of children, young people and their families in the community, facilitating appropriate access to specialist CAMHS and other relevant provision. As a senior supervisor, they will be working as part of the leadership team to lead and manage the service.

You will work together with the MHST Lead in developing the Hillingdon MHST service providing supervision to junior staff, liaising and consulting with schools, ICB and other community agencies, and ensuring the best possible outcomes for children who have emotional difficulties.
As one of the senior members of the team, you will work alongside senior CNWL staff and contribute to the service's development, as we continue to strive to be an accessible, responsive and innovative service with patient care and patient experience at its heart. There will be opportunities to further develop your leadership and strategic skills with support from senior colleagues.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Job responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the post holder will include:

  • Day to day operational running of the MHST teams, with support from Clinical Lead/Supervisor and CAMHS management structure. This may include managerial tasks such as recruitment, managing performance, ensuring team meetings take place, and management of healthroster.
  • Holding a caseload and undertaking the role of lead professional for children/young people with mild to moderate mental health problems in educational settings.
  • Working as an autonomous and accountable practitioner. This involves the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care for the child or young person.
  • Developing and disseminating packages of care which may include a variety of evidenced based interventions and work with parents and teaching staff on an individual and group setting.
  • Working collaboratively with young people and their families incorporating the use of outcome measures within their work.
  • Offering specialist support, consultation and training to staff within the service and other agencies where appropriate.
  • The post holder may have the opportunity to undertake a CYP IAPT supervisory course to become a supervisor for the Education Mental Health Professional (EMHP) at UCL depending upon existing qualifications and experience and course start date.

Person Specification
Essential Education and Qualifications

  • Core Professional qualification eg. Psychology, CBT Therapy, Nursing, Psychotherapy, Art Therapy, Family Therapy. Teaching/Social Work qualifications also considered.
  • Current professional registration with appropriate professional body HCPC, SSC, NMC, BACP, BABCP
  • Supervision training or demonstrable experience in supervising others

Previous Experience
Essential

  • Previous experience working with children and young people in a mental health setting
  • Experience of specialist mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions with children and young people with mental health problems and their families
  • Must be experienced in, and able to demonstrate ability to provide case management supervision for lower banded CAMHS workers, students and other service group/team professionals as required

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a CAMHS setting.
  • Experience of teaching and training professionals

Skills and Knowledge
Essential

  • Knowledge of the educational system in England
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to children and adolescents and safeguarding procedures and policies
  • Knowledge of NHS, Social Care and Education structures, national policies and frameworks & evidence-based guidelines (NICE)
  • High level knowledge of the theory and practice of short term and long-term clinical interventions in CAMHS
  • Ability to maintain accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronically and handwritten, which adhere to the CNWL policies
  • Able to talk to people about sensitive issues in a supportive manner but also challenge others appropriately, in a professional manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing, including reports and documentation
  • To have an understanding of the 2014 Children and Families Act in regards to children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND)
  • Ability to determine and reduce level of risk to self, service users and others.
