Job Description

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. If it is identified that you require sponsorship to undertake this role, your application may be withdrawn.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Activity Coordinator to join our inpatient Adult Acute Mental Health Team based at Milford House, St Georges Hospital, Stafford.

Milford House is an 18-bedded mixed sex adult acute admissions ward providing treatment and care for a wide range of mental health illnesses to patients who are of working age.

We provide inpatient facilities for working age adults with acute mental health problems, and we are looking for caring, compassionate individuals to work within our acute service who are committed to providing high quality care and treatment to our patients.

You will engage with adult mental health service users to promote recovery and reintegration with the aim of assisting service users to gain and maintain independence in the community or other step-down settings.

Working in an acute environment can be challenging, but with the right team, positive attitude, and resilience, we are rising to the challenge and reaping the reward of being able to support people during their most difficult times.

As the Activity Coordinator, you will provide formalized support and practical assistance to service users in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process, whilst supporting service users with dementia to maintain their current functioning skills requiring you to adjust your approach depending upon the need and intervention.

As part of this role, you will be expected to:

  • Help individuals identify their own achievable and meaningful recovery goals and actively, practically, and creatively support their progress towards these.
  • Facilitate access to community groups and networks that enable participation in the community to maximize the service user's opportunities for socially valued roles and positive identity.
  • Work directly with service users on a 1:1 and in group settings, e.g., objective setting for meaningful activity developing individual learning plans to enable successful social reintegration.
  • Deliver group work which is part of a treatment plan as formulated by an Occupational Therapist and Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Come and work with us at our award-winning NHS Trust, leading the way for trying new and better ways of working to help improve life for our local communities.

We have around 9,000 staff who provide physical and mental healthcare, support for people with learning disabilities, and adult social care across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin. We also run regional and national services, including help for new parents (perinatal care), eating disorders, forensic services, sexual health, and support for people in prison with mental health, drug, or alcohol problems.

We offer great career development for both clinical and non-clinical roles, with ongoing training and support to help you learn and grow.

We are United in our Uniqueness and committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and can be themselves, no matter their background or identity. We want our staff to feel supported and valued, and we aim to build a team that reflects the communities we serve. Together, we can make sure every voice is heard, and every difference is respected.

Please note, we may be required to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications.
