We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Coordinator to join our Primary Care team at HMP Belmarsh, a category A Prison located in Thameside, London.
HMP Belmarsh is a male, maximum security prison that has a capacity for 910 inmates. Healthcare at HMP Belmarsh includes:

  • Dentists

  • Substance abuse
  • Pharmacy

Monday-Friday
8.00-4.00pm

Salary
This position is full time; you’ll receive an annual salary up to £53,172 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

What you'll be doing
As a Clinical Coordinator, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Coordinate early-stage patient care by overseeing reception and second-day screenings, ensuring all new prison arrivals receive timely, comprehensive assessments and personalised care plans within the first 14 days.
  • Lead the Early Days in Custody (EDiC) team, managing registered and non-registered staff across key areas (Reception, First Night Centre, Conibere Unit) to deliver safe, patient-centred, and CQC-compliant care.
  • Champion evidence-based, non-judgemental practice, ensuring care is informed by patient feedback, safeguarding principles, and what matters most to each individual.
  • Provide strong clinical leadership and motivation, fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and pride within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Promote excellence and continuous improvement through clinical supervision, reflective practice, and shared learning to enhance quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with clinical leads and other teams, leading daily hub meetings, reviewing care pathways, and ensuring smooth transition of patients into ongoing or planned care.

Qualifications Required

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration, strong understanding of the NMC Code, safeguarding responsibilities, and medico-legal aspects of practice.
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessment, decision-making, and implementing evidence-based care, policies, and NICE guidance to improve standards and patient outcomes.
  • Experienced in clinical supervision, communication, and partnership working with healthcare professionals, external agencies, and patients.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure, manage challenging behaviour, and work effectively in complex, fast-paced prison healthcare environments.
  • Reflective practitioner with a proactive, innovative approach to problem-solving, learning, and continuous quality improvement using audit, research, and data analysis.

Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
