Job Overview
Camden Rapid Access Services (RAS) is a Physical Health admission avoidance and supported early discharge service. It has three pathways:

  • Discharge to Assess
  • Urgent Community Response
  • Virtual Ward
    The potential post holder will work across all three pathways within Camden RAS.
    The ideal candidate should possess a valid UK Driving licence (a car will be provided when required), though suitable non-driving candidates will be considered and provided with an Oyster card while on shift. Non-driving practitioners will be expected to be able to undertake the same number of visits per day as driving colleagues.
    Are you a Registered Nurse or Paramedic seeking a new challenging role in the community? The Camden Rapid Access Services (Camden RAS) is currently seeking to employ a Band 6 Registered Nurse or Paramedic with substantial experience in acute care (e.g. A&E, AMU, ITU, Paramedic). The ideal candidate will be confident in top-to-toe examination and succinct history taking.

    Main Duties of the Job
    Shifts
    Most shifts will be long days, running from 09:00 to 22:00. There will also be occasional shifts available:
  • Early shift: 09:00 to 19:00
  • Late shift: 12:00 to 22:00
  • Some shifts may also start at 08:00, with finishing times adjusted accordingly (e.g., 18:00 for an early shift and 21:00 for a long day).

    Lone Working
    This role regularly involves working independently in patients’ homes or within the community, including during evening hours when it may be dark. Please be assured that robust safety systems are in place, and we maintain an excellent safety record.

    Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
    You will need to possess knowledge of physical assessment skills (ideally you will have completed the Physical Assessment Module), be able to undertake a top-to-toe assessment and take a thorough, succinct history focusing on the presenting complaint. You should be forward-thinking and able to prioritize based on clinical need. Acute skills and knowledge are essential.
    Within the team, we have Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, medics, advanced clinical practitioners, and administrative staff. Nearby, we have District Nursing, COPD and Heart Failure teams and bridging packages of care. It’s a big team of clinicians, all striving for the best outcomes for our service users and their families.
    An informal discussion and/or site visit is highly recommended prior to application.
    Position: Community based (in patients' own homes) with the staff base being located at St Pancras Hospital (NW1 0PE).
    Person Specification
    Education and Qualifications
    Essential criteria:
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration OR Paramedic with current HCPC Registration
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or working towards)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Advanced Clinical Assessment Course (or willingness to undertake)
    Desirable criteria:
  • Mentorship qualification / Practice Supervisor and/or Assessor Courses
  • Independent Nurse Prescriber V300 (or working towards)
    Experience
    Essential criteria:
  • Substantial previous experience of acute care (relevant post-registration experience, preferably in Paramedic care, UCC, ITU, AMU, MAU, CCU or A&E)
  • Evidence of working within the MDT
  • Understanding of the role of Primary care in admission prevention and supporting a timely discharge
    Desirable criteria:
  • Community working
    Skills and Knowledge
    Essential criteria:
  • Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronic and handwritten which adhere to the CNWL policies
  • Able to talk to people about sensitive issues in a supportive manner but also challenge others assertively where necessary
  • Able to maintain electronic patient records (SystmOne)
  • Use Microsoft Word for letter and report writing
  • Act as the Clinical Supervisor for Healthcare Assistants and/or Band 5 Registered Nurses/Paramedics
  • Ability to act as Nurse / Paramedic in Charge of Shift (Clinician of the Day – COD)
  • Understanding the concept of quality and their role in improving safety, clinical outcomes and the patient experience
  • Understanding how the Mental Health Act impacts on their work and the people they are working with
  • Be proficient in safeguarding and advocacy
