Job Description

Job Title: Band 7 Occupational Therapist
Location: Newberry Child Development Centre
Contract: 1-year secondment or fixed term

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our community Paediatric Occupational Therapy team at the Newberry Child Development Centre. We are looking for a positive, proactive clinician to help us build a strong future for our Paediatric Occupational Therapy service. We also welcome applications from candidates seeking substantive employment as this will also be considered as an option for the service.

We are pleased to offer this rare and exciting opportunity at a time of positive change for our strong and growing team. We welcome applications from all qualified and experienced practitioners who want to work in a supportive environment that respects professional values and looks to develop and advocate for Occupational Therapy’s contribution to our children and young people’s service.

As a Band 7 Paediatric Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for your own complex caseload consisting of patients with a variety of conditions while leading the support and training of team members to develop within this specialist field and manage their own caseloads. Good prioritisation, organisational, and time management skills will be needed to balance clinical and non-clinical duties. You will need advanced communication skills to ensure a successful multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working closely with other teams including Neurodevelopmental and Physiotherapy. You will be in regular discussions with children, young people, and their families, as well as other health, education, and social care professionals. Responsibilities will also include:

  • In-service development ideas
  • Training/supervision of students, therapy assistant practitioners, and colleagues
  • Use of formal appraisal documentation

The Newberry Centre offers community-based therapies and neurodevelopmental services to the children and young people in the local area. As a senior member of our paediatric occupational therapy service, your role will involve the day-to-day leadership of the service. You will provide clinical support and line management to other team members and will have opportunities to gain and develop experience in service development and clinical leadership. You will also hold your own caseload and therefore have opportunities to maintain and further develop your own clinical practice, with support and encouragement to undertake further training. We very much welcome applicants from qualified Sensory Integration therapists (up to Module 3 or 4), however, there will be opportunities to undertake this training for the right candidate.

We want to attract the best and brightest people to work with us, and that means we will look after you from the moment you apply for a role at the Trust and throughout your career with us. Our staff are central to everything we do, and we believe that investing in you is crucial if we want to enable you to reach your full potential.
