Job Description

We are looking to recruit innovative midwives who are passionate about providing quality care to birthing families and are dedicated to providing evidence-based care.
Here in Oxfordshire, we offer women and healthcare professionals a unique setup of our Maternity Services where around 7500 babies are born annually. We have:

  • 4 stand-alone Midwifery Led Birth units within the county based at Banbury, Chipping Norton, Wantage, and Wallingford
  • Home births to all areas
  • An integrated birth unit where around 10% of birthing people choose to go in labour
    As a large Tertiary hospital, the John Radcliffe offers a large Delivery Suite with an en-suite birthing pool room, 3 Maternity theatres, and a specific Maternity Recovery Ward.
    This advert is for Band 6 midwives wishing to join both our hospital and community teams.
    We currently have rotational roles available for Band 6 Midwives within the John Radcliffe hospital setting.
    Please Note:
    This role is NOT eligible for International Educated Midwives who have never worked in the UK. We will advertise for our 12 week International Educated Midwives programme on a separate advert when we have vacancies. You will NOT be shortlisted if you fall into the above criteria.

    As a tertiary hospital, the John Radcliffe is composed of:
  • A Delivery Suite
  • 3 Maternity Theatres
  • A specific Maternity Recovery Ward
    We work closely with specialist services such as the Fetal and Maternal Medicine Unit, Breech Team, and Maternity Bereavement Teams. Midwives employed within the service have the opportunity to rotate to all our units/departments providing care to both low and high-risk women.
    For those working with us, we have a substantial support network for staff, focusing on wellbeing and development. This includes:
  • A team of professional Midwifery Advocates
  • Wellbeing Champions
  • Staff networks
  • A staff Maternity Psychologist
    You will be supported by the Practice Development Team who provide regular study days and updates and support staff clinically. We champion diversity and strive to ensure every member of our team feels included, valued, and has the confidence to speak up and be heard.
    We genuinely believe that by supporting our staff to feel happy and offering support within their work environment, we ensure the best quality of care for the women and birthing people who access our services.
    Part-time and full-time hours available. Flexible working can be requested - this needs to include 50% nights and weekend shifts to cover 24/7 maternity services.
