Senior Nurse Outpatients

This role is offered on a permanent basis. The hours are part-time, 30 hours per week.

The role of the Senior Registered Nurse Band 6 involves working clinically with the team to support the efficient running of the Outpatients Department, enabling patients to receive care closer to home from visiting Specialists including Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, and other Consultants/Registrars in their field of specialty.

• Deliver safe and effective patient-centred care to our service users, their families, and carers.
• Ensure the clinical care requirements of patients are communicated effectively.
• Responsible for supervising, developing, and mentoring newly qualified staff, non-qualified staff, students, volunteers, etc.
• Lead the team in the overall running of the department in the absence of an Outpatients Manager, ensuring safe staffing levels and informing senior staff/managers of any problems while providing solutions.
• Participate in clinics, acting as a chaperone when required.
• Undertake assessments and make appropriate onward referrals.
• Be competent in the administration of medications as prescribed by Consultants.
• Ensure patient records are kept up to date, accurate, and in line with the Trust’s Record Keeping Policy.
• Support the Outpatients Manager as the Clinical Senior Nurse, covering when the Manager is not in the department or on leave.
• Flexibility to work within the hours of 08:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs Monday to Friday.
• Attend meetings and activities at other sites if required due to operational demand.
• Develop knowledge and expertise in People Management to support personal development.
• Responsible for the safe use, inspection, maintenance, and security of all goods and equipment, ensuring appropriate stock levels.
• Review and appraise processes and policies to allow for continuous improvement within the Trust, ensuring the delivery of best practice.
• Carry out individual risk assessments and contribute in line with Trust Policy.
• Implement and conform to Trust and Departmental Infection Control policies and procedures.
• Take responsibility for personal development, ensuring knowledge and skills are up to date using clinical audit to improve standards of patient care and reflective practice in preparation for ongoing re-validation.
• Work in other departments or hospitals to ensure levels of safe staffing are maintained across the Trust.
• Ensure the privacy, dignity, and safety of people is maintained at all times.
• Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities and seek advice from appropriate staff.
