Main duties of the job
Are you a Cancer care nurse with a good understanding of haematology and looking for a new challenge?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic nurse to join our C7 Haematology Day Unit as a Band 6 on a 9 month secondment/fixed term basis.
Our team is enthusiastic, innovative, well-motivated, and dedicated to high standards of care. The team provides patient-centered, holistic care to patients undergoing apheresis and haematology treatments in the day case setting, with training for all aspects of care. The procedures undertaken include:

  • Stem cell harvest
  • Therapeutic plasma exchange and leucodepletion
  • Venesection
  • Donor lymphocyte infusion
  • Blood transfusion
  • Various chemotherapies
  • Ambulatory service
  • CAR-T therapy

What You’ll Do
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful applicant will join a highly skilled specialist team that offers treatments including SACT (Systemic Anti Cancer Therapies) and supportive therapies to Haematology patients. C7 is a Haematology/Ambulatory day unit and provides specialist care for many Haematology patients. Procedures such as apheresis, bone marrow biopsies, and venesections take place on the unit as well as IT chemotherapy administration. You will become a highly skilled professional with multiple opportunities for career development from ANP, CNS, and managerial roles. You will have the opportunity to rotate around cancer care to understand the nursing requirements for haematology patients.
Our service operates:

  • 8am-8pm Mon-Fri
  • 8am-4pm Saturday-Sunday
  • Apheresis on-call service for out of hours haematological emergencies

What We’re Looking For
As a part of the ward leadership team:

  • You will provide senior support to the C7 team and assist the Band 7 in running the service day to day.
  • You will be involved in service improvement projects to develop the evolving service.
  • You will manage a team through change, where you’ll need to demonstrate excellent communication, clinical decision-making, professional development, and a strong commitment to developing others.
  • You will have an understanding of how to improve and provide safe, quality care for patients and their relatives.
  • You will provide ongoing care for Haematology and Oncology patients.
  • IV skills including cannulation and phlebotomy.
  • You will be able to administer SACT and supportive therapies to Haematology patients.
    You will have the opportunity to learn specialized skills such as apheresis, venesection, and support bone marrow procedures and become a part of an apheresis on-call service.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria

  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Significant post-registration experience/qualification/training, including experience and knowledge within relevant specialty
  • Ward management experience
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Provide evidence of supporting/managing a range of learners in practice
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
  • Commitment to the post and Care Group responsibilities
  • Commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in handling adverse events and complaints
  • Appraisal skills
  • Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners/supporting challenges as needed
  • Some insight into budget management
