Job Description

Position: Community Midwife
Overview:
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, and compassionate midwives to join our community midwifery teams and midwifery continuity of care (MCoC) teams. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team dedicated to providing exceptional community care. Our traditional community teams are based across our four Midwifery Hubs, covering Northampton and surrounding villages. We also have a specialist safeguarding community team that cares for vulnerable families during the antenatal and postnatal periods.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide evidence-based care in the antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, supporting women’s choices regarding birthplace, including home births.
  • Collaborate with the wider multi-disciplinary team and support colleagues in the hospital setting.
  • Manage a caseload of birthing people, running clinics within a hub setting, and providing care within the home.
  • Support students on their learning journey.
  • Participate in internal rotation and on-call provision to support home births as needed.

  • Successful candidates will undergo a thorough induction package with yearly maternity training weeks to keep mandatory and role-specific training up to date.

Community Midwifery Role:
As a community midwife, you will:

  • Bring continuity of care to local families, supporting the vision of Better Births and Saving Babies' Lives.
  • Work autonomously and within a team of passionate community midwives in a geographical area, ensuring a rewarding work experience.
  • Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication among all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintain and develop your clinical skills and ensure compliance with revalidation requirements.
  • Act as a professional role model for midwifery, upholding the NMC Code of Conduct and maintaining standards of record-keeping within the practice setting.
