Are you an experienced Manager looking for a new opportunity?
The Medicine Division is seeking to appoint a Band 7 Specialty Manager to work within Cluster 4 of the Division. This Cluster supports the following specialties:

  • Cardiology
  • Clinical Haematology
  • Acute Oncology
  • Chemo Suite
  • Palliative Care
    This position offers a varied and interesting workload with opportunities to improve and transform all areas of each service, as well as involvement in both Division and Trust wide projects, including the Group Clinical Service project work within Cardiology and Clinical Haematology.
    The successful candidates will already be working in operational management and have a proven track record of success.
    The key to success in these roles will be working closely with clinical staff and other managers to ensure strong leadership and operational management to meet each services’ objectives and performance targets.

    Main duties of the job
    The post holder will be a key member of, and work closely with, the Divisional Management Team, and will contribute fully to the overall management and development of the Medicine Division at North Bristol NHS Trust.
    The role will be accountable for leading and managing identified specialties/services within the Division, ensuring the achievement of relevant performance targets and strategic objectives, ensuring the delivery of high-quality clinical services.
    The post holder will need to build and maintain effective relationships with staff across NBT and external partners/stakeholders to ensure continued provision of safe, effective and timely services.
    The post holder will be expected to provide leadership for workforce, finance, performance and will undertake various projects as required within the Division. There will also be a requirement to contribute to annual business cycles such as capacity and demand modelling, business planning and job planning.

    Knowledge and Experience
    Essential criteria
  • Relevant leadership and management experience of clinical services, with a minimum of 4 years in an operational management role
  • Experience of having worked in the NHS or other patient-focused environment, and to have worked as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Must be able to demonstrate operational management, organisational and prioritisation of multiple demands and pressures
  • In-depth knowledge of patient pathways and waiting lists, with full understanding and management of Referral to Treatment and diagnostic targets
  • Experience of reviewing capacity and demand, and service redesign/improvement
  • To be able to plan, coordinate and implement projects with given examples
    Skills And Abilities
    Essential criteria
  • To be able to manage and communicate with multidisciplinary teams and chair relevant meetings
  • To have outstanding people management skills e.g., robust sickness absence, conduct, performance etc.
  • Excellent task and time management skills in order to respond to demands, and ensure tasks are completed to deadline
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
  • Strong influencing skills to enable delivery of changes - facilitation, negotiation, problem solving
  • Provide an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and data protection in a hospital environment; knowledge of Government policy and how this affects/influences Trust objectives
  • To have a very good time-keeping and attendance record
    Desirable criteria
  • Ability to rapidly understand the functioning of a department and to apply this knowledge for effective management from the off
    Qualifications And Training
    Essential criteria
  • Higher level education, e.g., degree or post grad diploma or equivalent experience
  • Minimum five GCSE/O’level qualifications or equivalent, to include English Language and Mathematics or Accounting
  • Management, financial, business or project management qualification or demonstrated extensive experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
    Aptitudes
    Essential criteria
  • Must have excellent IT skills and knowledge - experience of computerised patient administration system e.g., Lorenzo or Cerner; working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience of delivering complex information and interpreting data
  • Must be numerate and have experience of finance and budgets
  • Must have well-developed keyboard skills to be fully functional in this role
