Role Overview
The role of the Senior Clinical Support Worker within Gynaecology is an exciting opportunity for candidates who thrive working independently as well as supporting the nursing and medical team. We are looking for a person who can use initiative and problem-solve under the guidance of Standard Operating Procedures and protocols. The position requires proficiency in both clinical and clerical skills, with duties ranging from:

  • Managing waiting lists
  • Making appointments (knowledge of Careflow and Iportal is desirable but not essential)

Predominantly based at Royal Stoke.

Interview Requirements
If you are shortlisted for an interview for this role, you must bring evidence of the following qualifications:

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or Level 2 Functional Skills for Maths and English. If you hold overseas GCSE equivalent qualifications, you will need to bring an ECCTIS comparability statement for your GCSE equivalent qualifications along with your original certificates.
  • A Full Care Certificate OR NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (only accept NVQs from a regulated awarding body).

If you do not bring the above qualifications to your interview, then the interview will not proceed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organise all aspects of clerical duties including reception duties, maintenance of computerised and manual record systems, booking appointments, filing, and ordering and storage of supplies.
  • Organise the delivery and retrieval of specimens, items & equipment to and from the outreach clinic.
  • The provision of care involves invasive procedures, some of which require additional training and assessment of competence by a suitably qualified assessor (e.g., bladder scanning, urodynamics assistant).
  • This role includes interpretation or analysis of clinical data.
  • Prepare the environment for the admission of patients for gynaecology outpatient examinations & procedures.
  • Chaperone and assist medical/nursing staff during patient examinations.
  • Communicate relevant information to the relevant consultant and nurse in charge.
  • Demonstrate good customer care skills.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, hazard-free environment.
  • Work in accordance with Trust policies, procedures, and protocols.

The primary role of a Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker is to assist, support, and work in collaboration with the Registered Nurse and the wider multidisciplinary team in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to person-centred care. The Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker should actively contribute to the health and well-being of patients, staff, and service users and be able to communicate effectively with sensitivity and compassion. They should be able to work independently within their sphere of nursing while under the supervision of registered nurses. Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Workers should demonstrate a level of skill and understanding that enables them to undertake specific skills and tasks delegated by the registered nurse and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines, and policies at UHNM. They will be required to undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed as competent.

Key to this role is flexibility, with the requirement for staff to work variable shifts over 7 days a week on a week-by-week basis within agreed limits.
