Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Radiographer with an interest in Interventional Radiology and General Radiology to work within the Radiology Department at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust (Royal Liverpool University Hospital site).

We are a busy department, based across two sites. Aintree University Hospital is the Trauma centre for the region; Royal Liverpool University Hospital is a centre for multiple specialist care pathways.

Our Interventional Radiology Department is large and undertakes specialised procedures, with a team consisting of Radiographers, Nurses, Support staff, and Radiologists. We are also part of the Registrar teaching programme.

The Interventional Radiology and General Radiology areas both maintain an out of hours service.

The post is ideal for a suitably experienced professional to extend their skills and experience while working in a truly team-based environment. It is essential that you are able to work flexibly according to the needs of the service. The ability to multitask in often demanding circumstances is a key attribute.

The intention for this role would be that it is based primarily within the IR department, supporting General X-ray as required. As our service expands, the option to specialise solely in Interventional Radiology may be explored.

The role requires working as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality imaging while ensuring Trust values are adhered to.

All Radiographic staff are responsible for reporting equipment faults and liaising with clinical teams when required. There are various roles shared out within the team including:

  • PPE audit
  • QA
  • Day-to-day running of the department

When working in general x-ray, candidates in this role may be required to support Area Leads and take responsibility for the general department in their absence. They should also assist with and support the development of Band 5 Radiographers, ensuring compliance with department protocols and procedures.

The Interventional Department has 2 IR suites, 1 Ultrasound/multipurpose room, and an Interventional CT scanner.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital & Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

We are part of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, formed on 1 Nov 2024 from the coming together of LUHFT and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust. The Group was born from a shared aim to improve the care we provide our patients.

UHLG is one of the largest employers in the region, with over 16,800 colleagues dedicated to caring for our communities - from birth and beyond.

For the 630,000 people across Merseyside, we are their local NHS. We provide general and emergency hospital care, alongside highly specialised regional services for more than two million people in the North West.

Aintree University Hospital is the single receiving site for adult major trauma patients in Cheshire and Merseyside and hosts a number of regional services including an award-winning stroke facility. Broadgreen Hospital is home to elective surgical, diagnostic and treatment services, together with specialist patient rehabilitation. Liverpool Women’s Hospital specialises in the health of women and babies, delivering over 7,200 babies in the UK’s largest single site maternity hospital each year. The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is the largest hospital in the country to provide inpatients with 100% single bedrooms and focuses on complex planned care and specialist services.

  1. Performance of clinical radiographic duties as delegated by the Area Lead in each section.
  2. Participation in the On-Call rota for Interventional Radiology.
  3. Participate in the radiographic rotation through General X-ray and Interventional Radiology. This includes providing highly specialised services for other care groups as part of the Interventional Radiology team.
  4. Participation in the vetting of appropriate request forms and discussion with the medical team regarding appropriateness and urgency of examinations in association with the Area Lead in charge of the area.
  5. To participate in multi-disciplinary team working.
  6. To practice within the rules of the Health Care Professions Council.
