Job Description

Are you an experienced care professional looking to take the next step in your career? As a Senior Care Assistant at Lilian Faithfull Care, you’ll play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support for both the residents and care teams in our Cheltenham and Stroud homes.

You’ll be working closely with the Care Home Manager and other senior staff to deliver a level of care that enhances the well-being and quality of life for our residents. This role is more than just a progression from being a care assistant. As a more senior member of the care team, you will take on additional responsibilities such as mentoring and training junior team members, overseeing care plans, and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations within the home.

Key Senior Care Assistant Responsibilities

As a Senior Care Assistant, you will undertake all of the core duties expected of a care assistant, including:

  • Delivering personal care based on tailored care plans, such as helping with washing, dressing, grooming, and continence care.
  • Providing mobility support and assisting residents with moving and handling, including helping with walking aids and wheelchairs.
  • Administering medication under supervision and maintaining accurate records.
  • Supporting residents during meal times to ensure their nutrition and hydration needs are met.
  • Offering companionship and emotional support to enhance residents’ well-being.
  • Assisting residents to engage with and participate in activities, both inside the care home and during outings.
  • Ensuring a safe and clean environment in accordance with hygiene and safety standards.

In addition to these core duties, as a Senior Care Assistant, you will also help:

  • Mentor and provide support to junior care assistants, offering guidance and training to help develop their skills and enhance the care team.
  • Take the lead in organising care schedules and care plans, ensuring they are reviewed regularly and updated as needed to ensure each resident receives personalised care that meets their specific needs.
  • Support the care manager with administrative tasks, including documentation and compliance with regulatory standards within the home.
  • Assist with the smooth day-to-day running of the home, ensuring that all staff members are working together to provide the best possible care.

Essential Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Proven experience in a care setting, with a strong understanding of care needs and best practices.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with residents, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.

Ideal

  • Experience in a senior or supervisory role within a care setting.
